Artist Klaus Capra

A photographic series as painted by the Chinese sailor Zheng He on his last expedition during his brief stay in the Maritime Republic of Genova c.1434, reign of 5th Ming emperor Xuande, son of Heaven. The conditions of his travels or indeed of his arrival into the ports of the Mediterranean Sea are disputed up to this day. However, it is believed that the old explorer attempted to transpose onto paper the passages of time at the port in small moving fragments. In the absence of moving image technology he endeavoured to layer the sketches one on top of the other. Unconfirmed accounts detail that once back in his courtyard of the imperial capital, his patrons took delight in the sight and texture of this ultramarine State. The authenticity of the records here presented is completely under the discretion of the viewer.
